Whilst working at GHD, Nick was involved in the development of background studies to inform the neighbourhood planning process for the Hemmant-Lytton industrial area.

The background studies included: analysis of the existing urban condition in the study area; researching best practice examples of industrial built form; and developing design and planning strategies in relation to built form, the public realm, and the natural environment.

Part of GHD team engaged by Gold Coast City Council to develop transport planning and design responses to reformat two significant residential roads into shared road and active transport corridors. Nick led the urban design and landscape architecture strategies which effectively sought to set a place making agenda and develop a suite of standard treatments which could be adapted throughout the corridor.

Insight DAS is leading a collaborative team to develop a shire-wide landscape strategy for Lockyer Valley Regional Council. An ongoing project, it involves the assessment of the region’s road landscapes (in terms of a wide range of issues such as: environmental values and constraints; infrastructure capacity; character and amenity; maintainability; traffic safety; etc) followed by the development of new policies and guidelines to direct the further investment into the region’s road landscapes, including in six pilot town projects.

Insight DAS was engaged by Lockyer Valley Regional Council to develop concept options for a prominent civic park in central Laidley.  The park surrounds the historic Das Neumann Haus landmark and will form a key congregation space for the community.  Three options were developed and costed to enable productive engagement with stakeholders.  The preferred option focused on the provision of adaptable spaces that were safe, comfortable, durable, and memorable.

In collaboration with GHD, Insight DAS recently prepared a 20 year master plan for Fraser Coasts’ CBD. The project involves comprehensive constraints and opportunities analysis, development of design principles and strategies in collaboration with project stakeholders, and development of key interventions.  The primary objective was to guide the growth of Pialba as the city’s CBD in a way that delivers quality public realm and accessibility outcomes, a prosperous commercial core, and key open space and environmental resources.

Engaged by Sunshine Coast Council as part of collaborative team to undertake a landscape and visual impact assessment of a 15MW solar farm proposed for former canelands west of Coolum.  The assessment included comprehensive view impact analysis as well as reflectivity impact analysis.
